Does ChatGPT Use Google Reviews to Pick a Local Business?

OpenAI does not publish a list of what ChatGPT reads for local answers, so nobody outside OpenAI can say for sure that it uses Google reviews. What is sourced: Google says reviews help your ranking on Google, and an assistant with web search can read pages that show ratings, so reviews are still worth earning.

Many articles say flatly "ChatGPT uses your Google reviews." We could not find that stated by OpenAI, so we do not say it. Here is the plain split.

Why reviews still matter

Even if no one can prove how an assistant weighs them, reviews do three jobs that help you everywhere:

• They help you on Google. Google says so in its own help pages.
• They put real words about you on the web. "Fixed our water heater same day in Savage" tells a reader, and any tool reading it, what you do and where.
• They help the customer who clicks. After an assistant names a few businesses, people still look at stars.

What good reviews look like

You cannot script reviews, and you should never buy them. You can make it easy for real customers to say real things.

1. Ask right after the job, in person or by text.
2. Send the direct link to your Google review page.
3. Ask them to mention what you did. "What did we fix?" is enough.
4. Reply to every review in a few plain sentences.
5. Do the same on one more site your customers use, such as Facebook or a trade directory.

How to check by hand

Test it for your own town. Open ChatGPT, turn on web search if offered, and ask "best [trade] in [town]." Write down the names.

Now look up those businesses on Google. Do the named ones have more reviews than you, fewer, or about the same? Try two more wordings, "who should I call for [problem] in [town]" and "[trade] near me in [town]," and ask twice on two days. Answers vary run to run, so a pattern across a few tries tells you more than one result. Do not conclude anything from a single run. A simple AI visibility checklist can help you keep notes.
